Collapse of Capitalism – The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Posted by Roger in March 17th 2010

On the sands of Dubai.
The rest of the story is pretty well known. The crown prince, and later ruler, of Dubai had his way. His emirate became one of the richest and gaudiest places on the planet. Population shot to almost 1½ million, about 90% of them immigrants – from unskilled Bangladeshi laborers to software engineers from the U.S. – all lured by the promise of better-paying jobs than they could find at home.

Counterfeit Gold Bars – A Reason To Buy Gold Coins?

Posted by Roger in January 23rd 2010

I’m betting not too many of you have the wealth to afford TOO many gold bars; after all, they are kind of expensive!
Is the threat of counterfeit gold bars a reason to avoid them? As always, I think, deal with reputable firms. That’s one reason to buy only gold coins of stable countries from reputable [...]

What Will Happen When Foreigners Stop Buying Our Debt?

Posted by Roger in November 19th 2009

The United States relies heavily on foreigners to buy our worthless paper, I mean U.S. Debt. This past year there have been auctions that have not gone well, but generally someone buys the stuff, if only to keep the value of what they already own from tanking.
Doug Hornig has more to say:
What If They Stop [...]

Commercial Real Estate Meltdown Poised to Make Residential Crash Look Lame

Posted by Roger in November 10th 2009

Commercial Real Estate Crash Will Bring More Bank Carnage
If you listen to the mainstream news media, and I hope you don’t, you would think that all is now well in the banking sector. Far from the truth.
Hundreds of banks are operating zombies, not shut down because the FDIC cannot afford to. They recently spent another [...]

Investment Newsletter to Profit From HITECH Government Program

Posted by Roger in October 28th 2009

I am not too anxious to have all of my medical history “in the cloud” for any hacker, government hack, or minimum wage receptionist to access and sell. But it is probably going to happen anyway.
The best we can do is position our investments to profit from it, right? That is one reason I am [...]

How Will China Affect The Price of Gold?

Posted by Roger in September 11th 2009

Gold, and the companies that produce it, have enjoyed a brisk runup of late, as the metal mounts yet another assault on the beckoning, symbolic $1,000 level. How much of this can be traced to what China has done, is doing, or may yet do?
We don’t know, but we suspect it’s not entirely coincidental. All rumor and speculation aside, as China clearly turns more and more bullish on gold, so will everyone else.

U.S. Government Confirms Reality of Peak Oil

Posted by Roger in August 27th 2009

I don’t think it really is in question by competent authority, but just in case it was, here is data from good ‘ol Uncle Sam himself that Peak Oil really is true.
After all, even if we could create crude oil in a lab or quickly, would it be sweet crude? I don’t think so. The [...]

How Will Gold End Up This Year?

Posted by Roger in July 17th 2009

Below is another guest editorial from the team at Casey Research.
Doug Hornig mentions the summer doldrums and certainly things have been dull. What we have not seen too much of is a summer shopping season. Some of our favorite mining stocks are at a bit of a discount, but not really at our target price.
Gold [...]

Cap & Trade – Kill the Economy, Kill the Taxpayer

Posted by Roger in July 15th 2009

Oh, and I might add, enrich the pockets of Goldman Sachs and all of their former & future employees now in government service. They will make billions on the trading of carbon credits.
Anyway, here is what Doug Hornig of Casey Research has to say about it. Naturally, we will also learn in Doug’s essay how [...]

The Second Crash – On the Way and Unstoppable

Posted by Roger in May 31st 2009

By Doug Hornig, Editor, BIG GOLD
Tuesday, October 9, 2007 started as a nice day in New York City. A lovely early fall day, with the temperature still a balmy 80° at 2:00 in the morning. By evening, though, the temperature had dropped twenty degrees, the clouds had rolled in, there was thunder and rain.
As with [...]
