High Energy Costs - How To Protect Yourself

Posted by Roger in April 26th 2008

Cheap Energy built this nation, High Energy Costs are going to pull it down.

High gas and other energy prices are on everyone’s mind. I’m putting $3.50 gas into the same vehicles that burned $0.95 - $1.25 gas for the first five years of their lives.

10 years ago fuel for my home (propane) was $0.58 per gallon. Now it’s $2.21. And all of this time our beloved elected officials told us that inflation was under control. “Sir Alan” as some mockingly call Mr. Greenspan, rakes in 6 figures to give speeches. Why anyone pays him that is beyond me.

I mentioned the documentary A Crude Awakening - The Oil Crash in a post this past week. That film shows pictures of rusted out oil field equipment in Texas. If you want to see rusted out industrial centers then take a train ride through Indiana just south of Chicago.

Our nations industrial might and other infrastructure are deteriorating rapidly. Some has been exported overseas to which many respond “this is good” (not the workers in those plants, though). But the infrastructure that allowed this country to prosper was built with cheap oil and other cheap energy forms. Those are gone. How will we rebuild? No government - local, county, state or federal - has enough money in the coffers to keep doing what they’ve been doing let alone replace or improve much needed roads and bridges.

This will affect your standard of living and your children’s standard of living, and not for the better.

So how are you going to protect yourself from skyrocketing energy costs? Stay home? You won’t be able to afford your electric bill unless you sit in the cold (or hot) and dark room.

America needs Nuclear power, but the environmentalists have put us decades behind other countries. We don’t even have the industrial capability to cast the housing for a nuclear reactor anymore. The countries who do have a long waiting list that we are not on the top of. And guess what, these people don’t like us much anymore either.

And, oh, ya, our U.S. dollar isn’t worth what it used to be either. Think “Mr. Hope” Hussein, I mean, Barack Obama, is going to be your salvation? Think again. He’s just another big talker who likes to play golf.

The only solution is to have more money. Other posts will talk about how to store that money (hint: not in U.S. Dollars that weaken more and more with the passing time and the printing of money).

Allow the energy crisis of this generation to line your pockets with money, not just drain them.
