Posted by Roger in January 29th 2010

At any given time, there’s a single international spot price for an ounce of refined gold. Gold is priced in U.S. dollars: $1,076.50 per ounce as we go to press. But what about the gold an exploration or mining company has in the ground – how do we value that?

Make Money Investing In Canadian Oil Sands

Posted by Roger in January 27th 2010

The biggest economic shift of our time is under way.

Cheap and easy oil is gone for good. And given our addiction to low-cost oil, the results are about to put the squeeze on your pocket book.

Increasing prices will have a huge effect on every aspect of your life, from the price of your food, to how much you’ll pay at the gas pump, to the cost of heating and cooling your home.

Nearly everything in our lives revolves around oil.

Will Gold Fall To $1000?

Posted by Roger in January 25th 2010

There are some good arguments put forth over the weekend why we might see long bond rates go down, not up (in the near term) and see the gold price retest important support levels around $1075 and then if that does not hold, down around $975.
Does this scare me?
Nope, I would love to buy more [...]

Counterfeit Gold Bars – A Reason To Buy Gold Coins?

Posted by Roger in January 23rd 2010

I’m betting not too many of you have the wealth to afford TOO many gold bars; after all, they are kind of expensive!
Is the threat of counterfeit gold bars a reason to avoid them? As always, I think, deal with reputable firms. That’s one reason to buy only gold coins of stable countries from reputable [...]

The Stock Market Is Going To Crash

Posted by Roger in January 20th 2010

Yep, we’ve heard that before. I even know some people that lost thousands on long dated Put after long dated Put. By the time a market drop came round, the market had risen so much the puts were still out of the money.
But right now I have Doug Casey, Peter Grandich, and Gary Shilling all [...]

Posted by Roger in January 20th 2010

Many of you know my high regard for John Mauldin and his free weekly investment newsletter delivered by email to about 1.5 million readers worldwide (and translated into Chinese).
This week’s guest “outside the box” was from Gary Shilling’s INSIGHT investment newsletter and he was gracious enough to allow John to share.
The missive goes into great [...]

Maybe you are old enough to remember the Sammy Davis, Jr. hit “The Candy Man”.
Well, comedian Tim Hawkins has upgraded the lyrics to reflect the disastrous state of the United States today.
Enjoy – if you can…

What Will Happen To The Price Of Oil?

Posted by Roger in January 15th 2010

Is the price of oil going up? Is it going down because the economy is in the tank (pun intended)?
Experts differ. Peak oil, I feel, is real. Billions of people on this planet will drastically increase their usage of petroleum products, even if they do drive electric cars.
Let’s hear how we can profit on our [...]

Inflation or Deflation? What the Deflationists Are Missing

Posted by Roger in January 13th 2010

What the Deflationists Are Missing
by David Galland, Managing Editor, The Casey Report
An interesting article by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard came my way the other day. It’s worth a read, if for no other reason than that he paints an appropriately dark picture of the current state of the U.S. economy. You can read it here.
While I very [...]

ABC’s of Canadian Stock Investing

Posted by Roger in January 9th 2010

I have often stated that if you really want to buy, sell and trade Canadian stocks, in particular the junior resource, mining, gold and silver stocks, then you need to trade on the Canadian exchanges (Toronto and Venture) and NOT buy pink sheet stocks in the United States.
The reasons are many, but essentially the pink [...]
